Thank You for Registering for the
2008 Summer Reading Program!
Get in the Game, READ!
The best game in town that keeps kids reading.
The children’s summer reading program
starts June 16. Be sure to stop by the Children’s Services Desk at either
Lockport or Crest Hill on, or after June 16 to pick up the official game card that tracks your
reading progress. Local businesses and restaurants have
donated many gift certificates and coupons that children will earn as they
move toward the finish line on their game cards throughout the
7-week program.
In addition, children who complete the reading requirement will
receive an invitation to the Dellwood Park Party on Saturday, August 16, a
final surprise gift, and a chance for the grand prize — a gift basket
valued at over $50 — three to be given away at each library. The winners
of the grand prize gift baskets will be chosen on Wednesday, August 6, and
notified by phone.

Double Dip With a Jammer’s Book Buddies
Card!
When you receive your Get in the Game, READ! game card,
you’ll also receive a Jammer’s Book Buddies Card. For every Jammer card
you complete (four books on each), you can get a voucher at the Children’s
Services Desk for a Tuesday night Jackhammer’s game. And, you can use the
same books that you read for Get in the Game, READ!
You can earn up to 7 vouchers for the following home games: June 17, June
24, July 15, July 29, August 12 and August 19.
Library Night at the Stadium is July 29.
Mark your calendars!
Get in the Game, Read! Game Card/Log:
There are two versions of the Get in the Game, READ! game card — one for
children in PreK-Grade 2 and one for children in grades 3 to 5 (grade just
completed). You should use the log on the back of the card to keep track
of what you read. Bring the card with you every time you visit the
library, and we will stamp the card to chart your progress!
PreK to Grade 2: To complete the summer reading program at this
level and to be eligible for all rewards, the reading requirement
(28 rectangles on the game card) must be completed. The rectangles
describe types of books to be read (or parents may read to their
children). To encourage children to continue reading during the program,
rewards are given each time 7 rectangles are completed. The rectangles
may be completed in ANY order.
Grades 3 and up: To complete the summer reading program at this
level and to be eligible for all rewards, the 14 rectangles on the
game card must be completed. The rectangles describe types of books to be
read. To encourage children to continue reading during the program,
rewards are given at completion of the 3rd, 7th, and 11th rectangles.
The rectangles may be completed in ANY order.
The squares on both game cards represent special programs and
activities that are optional, but will help the child earn additional
chances for the grand prize baskets. Completing any seven squares earns
one bonus chance that will be awarded after the reading requirement is
complete (28 rectangles for younger children; 14 for older).
Sucker Pull:
The ever popular sucker pull returns this
summer. Children get a chance to pull a sucker off the sucker tree once
each week. A colored tip wins a prize and the sucker! A plain tip wins the
sucker!
Surprise Books:
The traditional surprise books are back, but
with a twist. Younger children are required to read just one surprise
book. However, all children have a chance to earn a surprise book
each week they play the Game of the Week! And, all children may choose to
check out one surprise book each week.
Books Earned @ Game of the Week (a.k.a. GOTW):
We’ll have a different game set up each week at
the library. Children can play once each week. Their score corresponds to
a type of book (the book earned). Younger children need to read three
books earned at GOTW, and older children need to read two to complete
their game cards.
