Local History Room

Introduction
The Local History Room at the Lockport branch of the Des Plaines Valley Public Library District contains a collection of materials related to the history of Lockport, the I & M Canal, Will County, Illinois, and the Library. A variety of books, microfilm, maps, files, photographs, and archival materials are available to use for genealogy and local history research. Materials may be used in the library only and are not available for check out. A photocopy machine ($0.10 per page) and a microfilm reader with a printer are available.  Appointments are not required, but appreciated for extensive research. Please ask an Adult Services librarian for assistance.

A sample of topics includes: church and cemetery record transcriptions, necrologies, early newspaper indexes, local, county, and state history books, biographies, society newsletters, and writings about the I & M Canal, local organizations and buildings. All books are listed in our online catalog.
