Electronic Resource Policy
Mission Statement
We take pride in our role as a citizen
of the community; partnering with its members in the duties incumbent upon every
community member. We offer our information services to the community with the
enduring belief that in doing so, we serve ourselves. As professionals, we view
our responsibilities as a covenant of public trust.
Confidentiality
In general, the library will treat information stored on
computers as confidential. Requests for disclosure of information will be
honored only when approved by the appropriate library administrator, when
authorized by the owners of the information, or when required by local, state,
or federal law. Users should note that, in general, the Internet is a very
insecure form of communication, and should take precautions when disclosing
personal information. The library cannot accept responsibility for any
information stored on or transmitted using its computers.
User’s Privileges
Users of the library’s electronic resources have the
privilege to:
1. Use the library’s electronic resources in a
confidential and private manner to the extent possible
in a public setting.
2. Access public resources not directly controlled or
sanctioned by the library.
3. Use the library’s electronic resources in a manner
equal to that of other patrons.
4. Be treated with respect by staff and fellow patrons.
5. Access and read all library service policies and
discuss questions with appropriate library staff.
6. Be informed of any policy or procedure changes in a
timely manner.
User’s Responsibilities
Users of the library’s electronic resources have the
responsibility to:
1. Have basic knowledge regarding
the operation of personal computers.
2. Adhere to time limits imposed for the fair and
equitable use of electronic resources.
3. Treat staff and fellow patrons with respect.
4. Treat all computer equipment with respect and care.
5. Notify the staff of any problems with computer
equipment that occurs.
6. Use the library’s electronic resources only for
legal purposes.
7. Use the library’s electronic resources in ways that
do not interfere with other’s use of the
resources, and any outside
resources they are networked with.
8. Use the library’s Internet connection solely for
non-commercial activities.
9. Refrain from the public display of inappropriate
material (as defined by library staff to be something
that could, cause a
disturbance and/or interfere with another person’s use of library resources).
The Library District reserves the right to amend its policies at any time.
